Tammy Brooks, RVT, VTS (Dentistry)

My passion for animals began at a young age, and I always knew I wanted to dedicate my career to helping them. I pursued my education at Fairview College, becoming a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) in 2002. Early in my career, I had the privilege of working alongside Dr. Terrie Faber, a Fellow in the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry (FAVD), which sparked my lifelong dedication to veterinary dentistry.

With over 20 years of experience in veterinary dentistry—spanning both general practice and referral specialty dentistry—I pursued advanced certification and achieved my Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) in Dentistry in 2018. I was honoured to be one of only two veterinary technologists in Alberta (and Canada) to hold this designation at the time.

Professional Contributions & Teaching

I have a deep passion for education and advancing veterinary dental knowledge within the profession. This has led me to speak at various industry events, including:

Veterinary Dental Forum
Manitoba Veterinary Technologist Association's Advanced Training Conference
Pulse Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Annual CE Event
Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association

In addition, I contributed to the field through writing, with an article published in the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians Winter 2023 Journal.

Based in Calgary, Alberta, I support veterinary teams across Canada by providing in-clinic training, consulting and tailored education to enhance clinics' dental skills and knowledge.

Leadership & Industry Involvement

I am actively involved with the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians (AVDT), where I have served on the Credentialing Committee and the Maintenance of Credentials Committee. Additionally, I mentor aspiring RVTs working toward their VTS in Dentistry.

A highlight of my career came in 2023, when I was honoured as the ABVMA Veterinary Technologist of the Year—a recognition of my dedication to the veterinary industry.

Passion for Veterinary Dentistry

What drives me most is the dramatic improvement in an animal's well-being through proper dental care. I strongly believe in advocating for those who cannot speak for themselves and ensuring that veterinary professionals have the knowledge and skills to provide the highest standard of care.

Outside of Work

When I'm not working, I enjoy camping, playing board games, riding my motorcycle, and spending time outdoors with my husband, daughter, and German Shepherds.
